We extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, classmates, and community of Payson Groff, whose passing at the age of 15 is an unimaginable loss. During this time of profound grief, her loved ones are held close in thought and prayer as her life is remembered with love and gratitude.

Payson Groff, born March 8, 2011, in Kankakee, was a student at Herscher High School who carried a sense of purpose, curiosity, and determination well beyond her years. She dreamed of attending Northwestern University and becoming a lawyer, a goal that reflected her ambition and desire to make a meaningful difference.

Payson embraced life with creativity and enthusiasm. She was a loving older sister who valued her role within her family and found joy in art, drawing, softball, and track. She also cherished simple pleasures—playing Fortnite, collecting Monster High dolls, and spending time laughing with friends. Her personality shone through in her TikTok cooking series, “Cooking with Good Looking,” which she created with her best friend, Natalie.

She had a deep love for the outdoors, fireworks, and travel, especially trips to Panama City Beach, where she found happiness and peace. Payson’s faith was an important part of her life, and she was a devoted member of Faith Baptist Church.

She is survived by her parents, siblings, grandparents, extended family, and many close friends who will forever cherish her memory. She was preceded in death by her great-grandmother, Judy Arnold.

As arrangements are made at Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home and Faith Baptist Church, her community continues to come together in remembrance. Though her life was far too short, Payson’s light, love, and dreams will live on in all who knew her.
