Kaylon Rashaad Woods Death, South Bend, WI Murder-Suicide- Suspect Former Officer Found Dead After Self-Inflicted Gunshot
Kaylon Rashaad Woods Death Obituary – A tragic chain of events has left the communities of South Bend and Elkhart reeling after a fatal shooting, a serious injury, and the apparent suicide of a former police officer following a residential fire.
Authorities identified the suspect as Adonis Latroy Joseph, a 41-year-old former officer with the South Bend Police Department. Investigators believe Joseph carried out a targeted attack before fleeing and later dying from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The violence began Monday afternoon at the Highlands Apartments on Links Drive. Officers responding around 1:50 p.m. found 38-year-old Kaylon Rashaad Woods inside an apartment suffering from fatal gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Outside the building, police located 30-year-old Madi Morin with gunshot injuries. She was transported to a hospital with serious injuries and is reportedly recovering.
Investigators believe the incident stemmed from a personal dispute. Authorities said Joseph had previously been in a relationship with Morin and shared two daughters with her. Morin was reportedly dating Woods at the time of the shooting.
Following the attack, law enforcement tracked Joseph to a home in the Golden Pond Trail subdivision. A large response, including SWAT and emergency crews, surrounded the residence. During the standoff, a fire broke out inside the home.
After the fire was extinguished, Joseph was found dead inside with what authorities described as an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Investigators believe the fire may have been intentionally set.
Officials confirmed Joseph served with the South Bend Police Department from 2011 to 2018 before resigning following an internal misconduct investigation.
Woods is being remembered as a respected yoga instructor at DRIP Infrared Sauna Studio and a positive presence in the wellness community. Friends and students describe him as a mentor, father, and compassionate individual whose impact will not be forgotten.
The Elkhart County Homicide Unit continues to investigate the case. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward as the community seeks answers and healing after this devastating tragedy.
